Nationals 95

  1. Tapped Blockers : Tapped blockers don’t assign combat damage.
  2. Draw Step :
In National 95 you draw your card for the turn exactly like you play your land during a main phase : as a special action that can be done when the active player has priority and the stack is empty (nothing is about to resolve) and that can not be answered too (no stack when playing a land/drawing the card for the turn).
  3. Death at end of phase. Players only die for having less than one life point at the end of a phase or at the end of the upkeep and end step.
  • Erratas :
  1. Mana Vault
    {4}: Untap Mana Vault
Mana Vault doesn’t untap during your untap step.
At the beginning of your draw step, if Mana Vault started it tapped, it deals 1 damage to you.
{T}: Add {C}{C}{C} to your mana pool.(This is to harmonize the power balance between the old version and the current. A lot of the card texts’ differences between historical and current versions aren’t too dramatic but this one is and the card may be of importance for the balance of the format. Additionally the spirit of the format is to play as close as the historical format was. We can’t errata back every cards (don’t ask for other erratas unless you’re convinced you have one of importance for the metagame), but in a very few instances where the shift in power is too big, it has to be done.)
  2. Upkeep and draw step triggers :
The simplified version (see below for a more technically-accurate version) is that the triggers that would happen at the beginning of your upkeep (affected cards, or if you’re more familiar with the original wording of the cards those are all the upkeep costs and effects, if there’s upkeep written on the original card, it’s almost certainly worded with a beginning of upkeep trigger in the current oracle text) don’t happen then but are activated during your upkeep at a time of your choosing, unless the permanent quits the battlefield before you’ve activated it. Same thing for Howling Mine and Sylvan Library with regards to the draw step. This affects even the upkeep effects from your opponent’s permanents, like Black Vise for instance : you are the one who chooses when to activate your opponent’s Black Vise !
Replace each and every instance of “At the beginning of [X] upkeep”, by “During [X] upkeep, the active player activates the following ability once and only once – 0:”(X is often “your”, but may be “each player’s”, “the chosen player’s”, etc.)
For instance, Black Vise text is : “As Black Vise enters the battlefield, choose an opponent.
During the chosen player’s upkeep, the active player activates the following ability once and only once – 0: Black Vise deals X damage to that player, where X is the number of cards in his or her hand minus 4.”
    Howling Mine :
    Artifact, 2 (2)
During his or her draw step, if Howling Mine is untapped, the active player activates the following ability once and only once : {0}: Draw an additional card.
    Sylvan Library :
    Enchantment, 1G (2)
During your draw step, you may activate the following ability once: {0}: Draw two additional cards. Choose two cards in your hand drawn this turn. For each of those cards, pay 4 life or put the card on top of your library.(This mass-errata restores the old functionality for the active player to choose when to deal with upkeep costs and effects (and the Draw Phase ones), and give them a chance to get rid of one of those cards before suffering from them during upkeep -it is actually a quite important difference in some cases.)
  3. Orcish Artillery/Oriflamme : Casting Cost is 1R
(This was the cost on the alpha versions, and there were no errata on those cards, so we let everybody have access to the alpha’s power since the format is made to be affordable)

To note though, the format as of today is still in an experimental mode. It will really only be fully endorsed when we’ll have collected some more experience with it.
